Talk:Thumper

This page needs a serious overhaul.

Maybe add a strategy guide? I don't know if it should be on this page, or a separate page. --Super Foo (talk) 10:00, 8 November 2012 (EST)

Thumpers may need renaming to "Stock Personal Thumper", "Improved Squad Thumper", and "Advanced Squad Thumper" to match in-game naming. - lycan.nick (talk) 14:20, 27 February 2013 (EST)

Anyone know the Thumper durations? I know Stock Personal is 5-6 minutes, but I'm not sure about the others. Do they all take the same amount of time? Weableandbob (talk) 17:18, 9 April 2013 (EDT)

I think they all have the same duration right now. It's easy enough to remove (just remove that table entry from the template), but I don't want to go through the trouble of having to code an extra property if we end up having different duration thumpers in the future. I'll go back and comment out that table section. - lycan.nick (talk) 17:54, 9 April 2013 (EDT)

Wouldn't it be better to combine all the individual pages on thumpers into one, instead of having a page for each individual thumper size? I think something more like User:Rehpotsirhc/ThumperPageMockup would be easier to read, instead of having to go to each individual thumper page for information. --Rehpotsirhc (talk) 17:08, 12 April 2013 (EDT)

I am not opposed to this. However, make sure you can display a condensed form of the crafting requirements for each thumper as well. If you can find a good way to display the crafting information in addition to the other stats, then we can start merging all the pages together. -Thaewyn (talk) 19:33, 12 April 2013 (EDT)
Combining the pages would make SMW fields concerning thumpers and thumper-related resource collection worthless. While it's certainly possible to do it, I think we should stick to making individual pages for each thumper and transcluding them over to Thumper using {{:Stock Personal Thumper}} (or similarly named pages) instead. That would allow SMW fields to continue functioning (as long as we guard it with <noinclude></noinclude> tags), and we can write abbreviated articles for the transclusion (by using <onlyinclude></onlyinclude> tags on the abbreviated sections). - lycan.nick (talk) 20:01, 12 April 2013 (EDT)
Yeah, that would probably be ideal. Having separate pages for all the individual ones, but still having one central page with transcluded information, so if people are just looking for an overview, they can do that too. -Thaewyn (talk) 00:37, 13 April 2013 (EDT)
Not all that familiar with SMW, gotta read up on it. I'll see what I can come up with if I get the time. --Rehpotsirhc (talk) 17:15, 16 April 2013 (EDT)
Something like SMW's Tables built from inline queries would probably be a good solution, but it doesn't seem to be implemented here. Or am I just doing something wrong? --Rehpotsirhc (talk) 21:27, 16 April 2013 (EDT)
Probably because field names != property names. :D - lycan.nick (talk) 00:56, 17 April 2013 (EDT)
Ha, like I said, I'm new to SMW. That explains it, thanks. --Rehpotsirhc (talk) 13:37, 17 April 2013 (EDT)

Just implemented the tables on the thumper page, but had to work around the fact that the old pages are still there for improved, advanced, and elite thumpers. Should be ok to delete them now, nothing links to them anymore. --Rehpotsirhc (talk) 00:18, 24 April 2013 (EDT)

Mark 'em with Template:Delete (or Template:Merge if the content hasn't been moved yet) and I'll get around to it once I'm done with implementing SMW on my current batch of categories (up through Category:Wiki Maintenance). Thanks. - lycan.nick (talk) 03:53, 24 April 2013 (EDT)

Attempted to start moves on thumper pages to reflect the in-game naming system (personal thumper I, personal thumper II...), however this broke the table under "Thumper Types" for reasons I cant discern, so I reverted it, which did not fix the table. If anyone understands why this is happening, i'd appreciate help cleaning up and understanding my mistake here so I can continue work on fixing the thumper pages a bit. - Matonk (talk) 16:26, 26 August 2014 (EDT)

The tables broke because they're auto-generated using Semantic MediaWiki. If you look at the page source, you see an #ask request, and the thumper names hard coded in. A better way would be to have it auto generate simply based off being part of Category:Thumpers or something like that, but I'm unsure about how to get ordering correct and such when doing it that way. Lycan.Nick is more knowledgeable than me in that area. Weableandbob (talk) 17:20, 26 August 2014 (EDT)
I'm still not sure I understand what the issue is though. I did see the #ask and made many attempts to change the query it is using in previews, but never was able to make it pull the changed/reverted page in. I was able to make it pull in every other thumper I tried in testing fairly easily. I'm just thoroughly confused because to the best of my logic it should still work, but it just won't pull that exact page in anymore. Matonk (talk) 17:35, 26 August 2014 (EDT)
Have you tried clearing your cache (shift + f5 in Chrome, probably the same in other browsers). I've had problems in the past where pages tried to load old data from the cache instead of pulling new data from the server. Weableandbob (talk) 19:24, 26 August 2014 (EDT)
Hey guys I found the problem, the page move was fine, but the info is pulled out of the table on that page, so you also needed to edit the thumper in question so that it's new "name" is reflected on that table, I've fixed it. Ninjaloose (talk) 21:00, 26 August 2014 (EDT)
Well I'm glad it's working now. But I find it odd that when I reverted the change so that the table would have the right name again, it didn't show back up. Guess I should have tried the name thing first, but didn't want to make too many changes I was going to end up reverting. Anyway, thanks, hopefully we can get the thumpers up to a modern version now. Matonk (talk) 21:30, 26 August 2014 (EDT)
Yeah that is a bit odd, I found that I had to do an edit on the thumper in question after moving the page to get the tables to recognise the change. Fixed them all up now, but there is a problem with the first one you did, because we can't move a page to a page that already exsists, so there is now an incorrectly named Light Personal Thumper I that should be Personal Thumper I. Ninjaloose (talk) 21:43, 26 August 2014 (EDT)
Hmm. My bad then, hopefully we can get that sorted soon. At least the current name still has the proper name in it so it can be found in a search. Matonk (talk) 21:46, 26 August 2014 (EDT)
