The refining process is provided by the Molecular Printer and is used to process Resources into materials and components which in turn are used in the manufacturing (Crafting) process.

Refining Processes

Raw Metals

Raw Metals (also known as Ores) can be refined into Metals (also known as Bars or rods) and Crystite. Refining Raw Metals yields 20% of the input as a Metals (5:1 ratio) and 50% as Crystite (2:1 ratio). For example, refining 1000 Raw Titanium Ore yields 200 Titanium Bars and 500 Crystite.

Raw Biomaterials

Raw Biomaterials are parts of creatures that may drop as loot when they are killed, and can be refined into usable Crafting Components. Raw Biomaterials can refine into one or two items each. Some materials will refine into dark crystite as a second product, if the source material is refined in a quantity of 5 or higher.

The primary product will refine at a 1:1 ratio. For example: refining 100 Shell Fragments ---> 100 Chitin Fibers.

For materials that can produce dark crystite, the ratio for the secondary product is 5:1. So for example, 5 Melded Blood Samples will refine into 5 Carbon Powders (1:1) and 1 Dark Crystite (5:1).

To maximize dark crystite production, you should always refine those particular materials in groups of five, because any other number will result in wasted material. For example, if you refine 20 MBS at once, you get 20 Powders and 4 dark crystite, but if you refine 20 MBS in groups of 4, five times in a row, for a total of 20, then you will get 20 Powders but ZERO Dark Crystite!
